Starting a Raw Food Diet?
With so many concerns out there lately about the different diets that people are going on, it is no wonder that people are starting to do a little more research before beginning a new diet. One of the more popular diets would be that of the raw food diet. Most people hear "raw food" and think the worst. It really is not all that bad, though, and when done correctly, it can be both nourishing and tasty. There are of course certain things that you will want to watch out for but any reasonable diet has these things.
But what exactly is the raw food diet? While there can be some raw eggs and unpasteurized milk products, seventy-five percent of the diet is nothing more than raw fruits and veggies. This is not a weight loss plan although it is said that the raw food diet will help produce a leaner body. It is certainly a life style choice that will take some getting used to if you are not used to going without unprocessed food. The idea is that raw and unprocessed food is the healthy and natural way to eat.
The Benefits Of Eating Raw Foods
Since there are a few studies out there that show proof that cooking vegetables kill off important and valuable nutrients, the raw food diet is surely one that is full of good healthy nutrients. There is a study out there that also states that eating raw veggies over cooked ones will greatly reduce a person's chance at getting oral, laryngeal, esophageal, gastric, and pharyngeal cancers. Since there are so many attractive things that pull people towards the raw food diet, it is quickly becoming very popular.
Drawbacks Of Eating Only Raw Foods
Just like any other type of diet out there, there are going to be good points and then there are going to be not so good points. Luckily, with the raw food diet, the drawbacks are things that can be managed and controlled.
There have been studies that have shown that those on the raw food diet end up with a B12 vitamin deficiency. Because of this, it is important to make sure that you are taking steps to ensure that you are getting enough B12 into your body, such as through the help of vitamin supplements.
Why Are Dehydrated Foods Considered Raw?
Many people on the raw food diet take advantage of dehydrating because it does not subject the various foods to the extreme temperatures of cooking.
Dehydrating is often times used to help bring different textures to a meal or to prepare fruit or veggie snacks that will not go bad as quickly as they would if they were not put through the dehydrating process. It is important to make sure that the temperature of the food never reaches one hundred and eighteen degrees or it is no longer considered raw.
