Reader Review of the Good4U Dehydrator
This Good4U dehydrator review is another consumer report that had to have its own page (thanks Marsha in Vancouver!):
Using a small 3-tray dehydrator for the past five years has spoiled me from ever buying store beef jerky again. When my little unit finally bit the dust, I had to go shopping. I could not believe the wide selection now available! Finally settling on the Good4U 6 Tray Food Dehydrator, mainly because of having twice the space and a low to medium price, I couldn't believe what I had been missing for so long - time!
Not only does it cook a lot more meat all at once, but also the flavor and texture is to die for. I always thought jerky was jerky but I was so wrong. The enclosed recipe book gave me ideas for marinade and different flavors that make the meat really come alive. The Good4U dehydrator has an airflow system that I had never had and I am convinced that even drying has a lot to do with the quality of the food's taste.
The adjustable thermostat, 84 to 155 degrees Fahrenheit, has given me the confidence to try new things, such as dried fruit. No more wasting apples, bananas, peaches and oranges. I buy them on sale in the summer months and we have great fruit to snack on all year long. Trail mix is a favorite of my family and I now make it by the tons.
There are 6 drying trays included with the Good4U dehydrator and everything is dishwasher safe. A separate On/Off switch is built into the unit so you don't have to pull the plug all of the time. The cord on the plug is at least five feet long so it is not necessary, like my old unit, to keep near a plug in to use.
Mesh trays are also something new to me that help the air circulate throughout the food instead of just getting dried in spots and the 500 watt Good4U comes with a ten year guarantee so I won't have to replace for quite a long time.
I have often thought that I should stock up on storable foods just in case there is a power outage or worse and this unit has convinced me that it is time to start. I think this would be a good idea for everyone. The world is too unstable to not be prepared for an emergency. I have a large airtight cooler in the basement that I am going to fill with jerky and fruits just to be on the safe side. Storing some in the car is also a good idea with the terrible winters that we have. Getting stranded or stuck in the snow is no fun, especially when you're hungry.
I am sold on the Good4U dehydrator and believe that anyone can use this model, even if you are a beginner. The instructions are simple but even if you have been making your own jerky for years, like me, you will immediately notice the difference in flavor.
